You only have one body so ‘Always read the label…’
We are all becoming more and more aware of the ingredients found in our food and drinks, we certainly are, and we are proud to say that you will only ever find 100% natural fruit in our Bigberry smoothies.
As we all know there are natural sugars found in fruit, Natures way of keeping us sweet!! So just in-case you are wondering, there is a difference between natural fruit sugars (Fructose) found in all fruit, and added sugar (Sucrose) found in those unhealthy drinks we don’t like to talk about…
What is the difference between fructose and sucrose?
Fructose (or fruit sugars).
The body can convert and store excess fructose (the natural sugar that is found in fruit) in the liver and can release it gradually over the course of the day as valuable energy needed by the body. This prevents the useless sugar rush that you get from table sugars. The added benefit of fructose is that it is found in all fruit, and as we know fruit holds a fantastic array of natural vitamins and minerals – is there nothing that fruit can’t do?
Sucrose (or table sugars).
Sucrose provides the body with a sugar spike (sugar rush) which needs to be dealt with by the pancreas through the release of insulin. Excess sucrose is eventually stored in the body as FAT! A no no! And with no useful vitamins or minerals either.
Aren’t sugars and fruit acids bad for my teeth?
As recommended by your dentist! You should brush your teeth twice daily and after eating and drinking. We all drink tea/coffee or red wine without a thought for our oral hygiene. These can discolour our teeth and there is very little we can do to prevent it.
Fruit acids however, can be neutralised, this is done by either chewing a piece of gum or eating a small piece of cheese. Damage by sugars can be reduced by using a straw with your smoothie or simply rinsing/cleaning your teeth after you have finished. Don’t forget most fruits contain Vitamin C which is actually GOOD for oral health.
