Pineapple
Origins:
Found in central and southern America to as far as the West Indies, Columbus took them to Spain in 1493 and spread them across the rest of the world on sailing ships as protection from scurvy, they arrived in the UK in 1660.
Health Benefits:
High in Vitamin C and A, they also contain an important enzyme called Bromelain which helps digestion and has inflammatory properties. Bromelain is also used to fight heart disease, arthritis and respiratory tract infections. Vitamin C boosts the immune system and is very good for oral health.
